A sample migration

Acme has 50 Stripe subscriptions. 15 are active: 10 move now, 5 wait for a later pass. Pick a moment. Every state is derived the same way as a real project. Try the decisions in stage 3; other writes are disabled. Some steps are left out here; your own project shows every step.

Move the catalog and customers

Stripe copies the customers and their cards; this stage walks you through it. Products and prices are recreated with new IDs. Both are verified.

Two things happen here. Stripe copies the customers; you start that by hand below. SubPorter recreates the catalog on its own.

In your own project this stage walks both owners through Stripe’s customer copy one click at a time, with a picture of every Dashboard screen.

  1. 1Download the customer list
  2. 2Open Customers in the source account
  3. 3Upload the list
  4. 4Enter the destination account ID
  5. 5Confirm the request
  6. 6Accept the request in the destination account
  7. 7Stripe copies the customers
  8. 8Verify the copied customers

Connect the destination account

A restricted key that can create products, prices, meters, customers, and subscription schedules in the destination account.

  1. 1
This one-click key creation link is provided in your migration project. It opens Stripe’s form with the exact permissions filled in.

Before clicking Create key, check the Stripe URL shows the account you expect and that live mode is selected. Use the Create key button in the footer of Stripe’s form, then copy the rk_live_… value right away. Stripe shows it only once.

  2. 2

Encrypted before it is stored, scoped to this migration, deleted when the migration completes.

Old ID to new ID

Not created yet. As soon as the destination account’s write key is in, SubPorter recreates 3 products, 7 prices and 1 billing meter. Stripe assigns new IDs; the source ID goes into each object’s metadata.
